BIOGRAPHY AND PERSONALITY OF A FAMOUS CANCER: INGMAR BERGMAN

Film and stage director.  Ingmar Berman died July 30, 2007, at his home in Faro, Sweden. Berman was born July 14, 1918 in Uppsala, Sweden. 

His explorations of pain won many international prizes for such films as Det sjunde inseglet (1957, The Seventh Seal), Smultronstället (1957, Wild Strawberries), Jungfrukällan (1960, The Virgin Spring, Oscar), and Såsom i en spegel (1961, Through a Glass Darkly, Oscar), which are outstanding for their photographic artistry, haunting imagery, and subtle exploration of facial characteristics.

In 2004, he announced his retirement from the stage at the age of 86.
